Automatic Sliding Gates Australia

Supply, Installation & Service

Sliding gates are the dominant choice for commercial and industrial vehicle access control across Australia. Where swing gates need clear arc space and boom gates suit throughput-focused access points, a sliding gate delivers the most flexible solution for the widest range of site conditions, level or uneven ground, narrow or wide openings, light commercial to heavy industrial, standard or high-security.

National Entrance Systems supplies, installs, and maintains the full range of automatic sliding gate systems for commercial and industrial sites across Australia. We cover track-mounted, cantilever, and telescopic configurations, work with all major automation brands, and handle everything from the initial site assessment through to commissioning and ongoing service.

Types of Automatic Sliding Gates We Supply

Track Sliding Gates

The most widely installed configuration for commercial and industrial sites. A single gate panel runs along a surface-mounted or ground-embedded steel track, driven by a rack-and-pinion motor system. The track provides the support and guidance mechanism, making this the most cost-effective sliding gate configuration where ground conditions allow.

How it works: A toothed rack is welded along the bottom or rear edge of the gate panel. The drive motor engages this rack via a pinion gear, pulling the gate open or closed as the motor turns. Most commercial systems use 24V DC motors for energy efficiency and quiet operation; heavier industrial panels use higher-torque units sized for gate weight and daily cycle volume.

Best for: Warehouses, factories, logistics facilities, commercial office parks, and any site with a level, sealed surface and adequate run-back space beside the opening.

Standard arm lengths and clearances: A track sliding gate requires run-back space equal to the gate width plus approximately 300–500mm on the opening side. For a 6-metre opening, that means roughly 6.5 metres of clear space beside it.

Cantilever Sliding Gates

A cantilever gate is suspended above the ground on rollers mounted to posts on one side of the opening, no ground track required. The gate extends past the post line and is counter-balanced by a rear portion that sits behind the support posts. This design eliminates all ground contact in the opening zone.

Why this matters for industrial sites: Track sliding gates rely on a ground track running across the entrance. On unsealed surfaces, high-traffic gravel yards, or sites with heavy truck traffic, tracks get damaged, clog with debris, and fail. A cantilever system has no track to damage or obstruct. It also handles uneven or sloping ground that a track system can’t accommodate.

Best for: Industrial estates with unsealed or gravel surfaces, high-throughput truck entries, sites with ground movement or uneven terrain, and any application where installing and maintaining a ground track is impractical. Cantilever gates are the standard specification across most heavy industrial sites in Australia.

Clear opening capacity: Systems can span up to 13–15 metres of clear opening in standard configurations, making cantilever the only practical option for very wide industrial entries.

Telescopic Sliding Gates

Multiple gate panels that slide and overlap (telescope) as the gate opens, rather than a single panel that requires full run-back space. A standard sliding gate for a 6-metre opening needs 6+ metres of run-back, a telescopic system for the same opening may only need 3–4 metres, because two or three shorter panels stack together.

Best for: Sites with a wide opening but constrained run-back space, common in urban commercial properties, strata complexes, and established industrial sites where retrofitting a standard sliding gate would require removing infrastructure.

Bi-Parting Sliding Gates

Two gate panels that open from the centre, each travelling to opposite sides. Used for very wide openings where a single panel would be impractically heavy or long, or where a symmetrical entry is architecturally required.

Best for: Wide commercial and industrial entrances where a single-panel solution would be structurally impractical, or prestige commercial entries where a symmetrical opening is specified.

How We Choose the Right Configuration for Your Site

The most common mistake with sliding gate procurement is specifying based on price rather than site conditions. A track sliding gate installed on a gravel logistics yard will fail within months. A cantilever gate specified without adequate concrete footings will develop alignment problems. We assess your site properly before recommending anything. National, Industrial Repair and Maintenance Services

Motor and Drive Systems

We specify and install motors from all major commercial gate automation brands operating in Australia.

Centsys (Centurion Systems)

The Centurion D10 and D20 series are among the most widely deployed commercial sliding gate operators in Australia. The D10 handles gates up to 1,000kg; the D20 extends this to 2,000kg for heavy industrial panels. Well-regarded for reliability, parts availability, and straightforward installer configuration.

FAAC

FAAC sliding gate operators cover the full commercial range, from the 844 series for standard commercial panels through to high-duty systems for heavy industrial gates. FAAC is commonly specified for high-cycle commercial environments where long-term reliability under constant use is the priority.

BFT

The BFT DEIMOS and ICARO series provide strong commercial performance across a wide weight range, with good integration flexibility for complex access control configurations.

NICE

NICE sliding gate operators are frequently specified for commercial sites requiring sophisticated integration, their systems work well with NICE’s own access control ecosystem and most third-party systems.

DEA

DEA operators are known for precision and quiet operation in commercial applications. The DEA TOM and BOX series cover the standard commercial range.

Roger Technology

Brushless motor technology for extended service life and reduced maintenance requirements, well-suited to high-cycle commercial and industrial applications where motor longevity is a priority.

Maintenance and Repair

Sliding gates operate under constant load, every opening and closing cycle puts mechanical stress on the rollers, track or rollers, rack and pinion, and motor drive. Without regular maintenance, this wear accumulates and leads to premature failure.

A standard maintenance visit covers:

commercial and industrial facilities across Brisbane metro and South East Queensland

commercial and industrial sites across the Perth metro including Kewdale, Welshpool, Henderson, and Malaga; cantilever gates are frequently specified in WA due to the prevalence of unsealed industrial surfaces

Sliding Gate Adelaide and Regional

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a track sliding gate and a cantilever gate?

A track gate runs on a ground-level rail across the entrance opening. A cantilever gate is suspended above the ground on rollers fixed to posts on one side, no track across the opening. Track gates are simpler and slightly less expensive; cantilever gates are preferred for industrial sites with heavy vehicle traffic, unsealed surfaces, or uneven ground where a track would be damaged or obstructed.

How much run-back space does a sliding gate need?

A standard single-panel track or cantilever sliding gate requires run-back space roughly equal to the gate width plus 300–500mm. For a 6-metre opening, you need approximately 6.5 metres of clear space alongside. If your site doesn't have that space, a telescopic configuration uses approximately half the run-back.

Can an existing manual sliding gate be automated?

In most cases, yes, provided the gate structure, rollers, and track (or cantilever posts) are in good condition and can carry the additional load of the motor and rack. We assess existing gates as part of the site inspection and advise on suitability before quoting.

What gate weights can your motors handle?

Commercial motors cover gates from a few hundred kilograms for light commercial panels up to 2,000kg+ for heavy industrial cantilever systems. Motor selection is based on your gate's actual weight and daily cycle volume — we don't recommend a motor that's too small for the application.

Do you service sliding gates installed by other companies?

Yes. We service all makes and models regardless of the original installer. Knowing the brand and model helps us prepare parts in advance, share that when you contact us if possible.
